AI Research Fellow, FCDO

Dr Becky Faith is a researcher and digital-development specialist whose work explores how artificial intelligence and other digital technologies affect human wellbeing, public services, inequality and development outcomes. She works across research and policy, with a particular focus on ensuring that emerging technologies are designed and governed in ways that are useful, inclusive and accountable.

Alongside her work with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), Becky is a Research Fellow in the Digital and Technology cluster at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) at the University of Sussex. Her research spans artificial intelligence, digital inequalities, gender and technology, and the future of work. She also co-leads research at the ESRC Digital Futures at Work Research Centre, examining how digital technologies are changing working lives and who benefits from — or risks being excluded by — those changes.

Before joining IDS, Becky spent around fifteen years working with NGOs at the intersection of human rights, digital rights and technology for social change, after beginning her career in digital start-ups. She holds a PhD in Computing and Communications and an MSc in Technology Strategy Research. Across her work, she brings a long-standing interest in how institutions can adopt technology while preserving accountability, inclusion and meaningful human agency.
